Flexing the Dad Bod
At the end of Avengers Endgame, Thor’s physical appearance reflects that he’s finally becoming “who he is” versus “who he’s supposed to be” by sporting the most godlike dadbod you can imagin.
The underlying message here is that you can be a superhero and still have a beer gut. This single sentiment, more than anything, is comforting for all sorts of dads, especially for those dads who play Magic the Gathering just to temporarily escape the reality of family life. During the first weekend of March over 60 father figures from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Spain came together to do just that; escape family life and, for a few hours, be who we really are; middle-aged men who like to drink beer and play old school Magic. It was time for DadBodCon 2022!
The more the Merrier
I had an amazing time during the Uthden Troll Cup in Leeuwarden. I shared my enthusiasm with my super duper Magic friends and my cousin with whom I started playing Magic back in ’95. Excited by my stories, my cousin, together with one of my best friends since college, desided to sign up for DadBodCon and experience for themselves how wonderfull the Old School community truly is.

My cousin, always the creative player of our group, played a super fun deck around Mana Flare, Howling Mine and Stormseeker. It’s kinda hard to explain but it looked really fun. My best friend played mono black. After 7 rounds my cousin took last place but had a blast. My friend ended up somewhere in the middle of the bracket but was completely hooked! After DadBodCon he traded his entire Magic collection for Old School. He is now the proud owner of a very solid DeadGuy Ale deck. A fresh soul *enter evil laugh*.
For me, DadBodCon 2022 was the first real life tournament I played Machine Head at. I ended up ranking 5th. I loved every second of it.
