Well… yes. Of course it was an April Fools’ joke!

I honestly did not expect quite so many people to fall for it, and I certainly did not expect offers of legal assistance from concerned community members ready to defend Edge-Man against the full force of U2-related litigation. That was amazing.

To be clear: The Edge has not threatened us with legal action, the tournament is not being renamed to Brink-Man, and no Irish guitar legends were harmed in the making of this joke.

All jokes aside, I’m a genuine admirer of The Edge. His sound is iconic, unmistakable, and honestly just deliciously 90s in the best possible way. Very Old School indeed!

Thanks to everyone who played along, panicked briefly, or prepared for battle on our behalf.

Edge-Man remains Edge-Man.

Important Announcement Regarding the Future of Edge-Man Championship

After careful consideration, and in light of a serious legal threat from an individual named David Howell Evans, also known as The Edge, we have made the difficult decision to rename the event.

We were informed that our continued use of the word “Edge” may cause confusion among the general public, particularly those who regularly confuse Old School Magic tournaments with legendary Irish rock guitarists.

While we believe this risk was minimal, we have chosen not to test the full power of arena-level legal representation.

Effective immediately, The Edge-Man Championship will become The Brink-Man Championship.

“Brink” felt like the natural next step. It has stature. It has drama. And, above all, it sits at a comfortable legal distance from the word “Edge.” The estate of Jos Brink has confirmed that it will waive any potential future claims in connection with this matter. This was formalized through a signed Waiver and Consent, under which the beneficiaries agreed to waive formal accounting requirements and any right to object to the executor’s conduct, thereby helping accelerate the probate process. We want to take the opportunity to express our gratitude to the Jos Brink estate.
