Old School Magic. Warm weather. Cold drinks. Zero excuses.
What if an Old School Magic weekend didn’t have to be another dark tournament hall, airport hotel, or “I swear this is the last Magic trip this year” situation?
What if it looked more like this:
A warm location abroad. A beautiful private venue. Tournament tables right next to the pool. Cold drinks showing up at exactly the right moment. A hot girl that is actually interested in you. Old School cards on the table. Old friends in the sun. Good food, late-night stories, and just enough nonsense to make the whole thing feel slightly irresponsible.

This is the kind of Magic trip where you can play cards during the day, have a drink by the pool between rounds, and sit down for dinner at night without needing to explain why a 30-year-old piece of cardboard just ruined your afternoon.
We are currently exploring the idea of a small, invite-only Edge-Man Old School Magic Retreat somewhere sunny outside the Netherlands.
Nothing is final yet. No location is booked. No price is set.
No dragon has been awakened. But the idea is real.
And before we go deeper into planning mode, we want to know one thing: Would you be interested?
The Idea
The idea is simple: a long weekend abroad built around Old School Magic, sunshine, food, drinks, and the kind of relaxed atmosphere that makes people say, “Okay, this was much better than a normal tournament.”
We are thinking of a small group of around 20 Old School players, staying together at a beautiful villa, finca, masseria or retreat-style venue. Somewhere warm. Somewhere with a pool. Somewhere with proper tables, good drinks, comfortable spaces and enough atmosphere to make it feel like more than just another event.
You are still thinking about the hot girl I mentioned that is actually intrested in you? Well, this is not only for players. Wives and/or girlfriends are very welcome. In fact, that is part of the concept. Why? Because let’s be honest: the home front has survived enough Magic weekends already. This might be the first Magic trip that actually helps your case. You can even sell it as a “thank you for supporting me and my silly little hobby” kind of trip. Just casually mention the old school event when you are already behind customs.

During the day, the players can focus on what they came for: Old School Magic, drinks, trading, side games, questionable deck choices and the occasional emotional discussion about Library of Alexandria.
At the same time, partners do not have to pretend they care about sideboards, mana bases or whether your opening hand was “actually keepable”. Eline will help shape a relaxed partner-friendly daytime experience with things like wine tasting, small excursions, cocktails, local food, pool time, beautiful town trips and whatever else makes the trip feel like an actual holiday.
Then, in the evening, everyone comes together again. Shared dinners. Drinks. Stories. Sunset. The players can talk about their heroic wins. The partners can politely pretend to listen. Everybody wins. That is the idea.
A small, warm, slightly ridiculous Old School Magic retreat with just the right amount of luxury, sunshine and irresponsibility. Before anyone gets too excited: this is still a Magic retreat. Keep your keys in your own pocket.
The vibe
Picture this: The guys are sitting near the pool, sunglasses on, beer within reach, cards on the table. Meanwhile, the ladies are not stuck watching grown men argue over cardboard. They are in town with Eline. Wine tasting. Cocktails. Local food. A sunny terrace. Maybe a small excursion, a bit of shopping, a beautiful lunch spot, or just a proper pool day without anyone asking what phase it is.

I know… A lot of players like to keep their hobby and personal life separate. Fair enough. Not every partner wants to spend a long weekend inside the Magic bubble. And honestly, they shouldn’t have to. That is why this concept works.
During the day, everyone gets their own version of a great trip.
For the players: cards, competition, beer, pool, friends and Old School chaos.
For the partners: sun, food, drinks, local atmosphere and zero mandatory deck techs.
At night, the whole group comes together again for dinner, drinks and stories under the warm evening sky.

Old School Magic during the day. Shared holiday vibes at night. That is the sweet spot.
Or, to put it differently:
You get an extra Magic trip. They get an actual holiday.
The Edge-Man gets away with it again.
Need help selling this at home? This is the part where you show her the moodboard Eline made. She’ll be doing most of the actual planning, so when we say this will be great, you can trust us. I’m mostly here for the cardboard addiction, questionable jokes and occasional eye candy.

What might be included
Again: nothing is final yet, but we are exploring a package that could include things like:
- accommodation for the weekend
- breakfast
- two shared dinners
- drinks during the day
- snacks and bites
- tournament entry
- casual side events
- small goodies
- partner-friendly activities
- a beautiful private or semi-private venue
Flights would most likely not be included. That keeps things easier, cheaper and more flexible for everyone.
We may look into recommended flights, shared transfers or rental car coordination once the destination becomes clear.
Who is this for?
This might be for you if:
- you love Old School Magic
- you enjoy small community-driven events
- you like the idea of combining cards with sun, food and drinks
- you want something more memorable than another standard tournament
- you might want to bring your partner
- you are okay with the fact that The Edge-Man may judge your deck choices
This is probably not for you if:
- you only care about EV
- you dislike fun
- you believe cards should never be near a swimming pool
- you think The Deck is for people who try too hard
Actually, that last one may be true.
Interested?
We are currently testing the idea with a small group of people before deciding whether to take the next step.
