THE EDGE-MAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2024
The Official 2024 Playmat
The battlefield of The Beginning.
The Edge-Man Rides Out
The artwork of the first Championship captures The Edge-Man at the beginning of his journey: sword in hand, riding a black horse across the open plains.
Its classic sword-and-sorcery imagery sets the scene for the first chapter of the Championship.

Every tradition begins as an idea—and every first edition begins with uncertainty.
The inaugural Edge-Man Championship began as an attempt to give something back to the Old School community that had provided so many friendships, journeys and unforgettable games.
Until the doors opened, there was no certainty that the event would feel the way it had been imagined. Would the players embrace it? Would the atmosphere remain welcoming? Could a new tournament become something more meaningful than another date on the calendar?
Those doubts disappeared as players arrived, greeted one another and began filling the venue with cards, stories and familiar Old School energy.
What had existed only as a plan was about to become a real community tradition.
The Edge-Man Rides Out
The first Championship introduced The Edge-Man riding his ebony horse across open plains and rugged mountains: the visual beginning of a journey that would continue through a different world every year.
Sixty-Four Players, One Gathering
The moment the room filled with players, the Championship became about far more than cards and standings.
A Full Room
Sixty-four players gathered for the first edition, transforming an untested idea into a living Old School event.
Shared Passion
Beloved cards, carefully built decks and Magic’s earliest artwork provided the common language around every table.
New Connections
Seasoned veterans and eager newcomers shared games, stories and the atmosphere that would define later editions.
The Championship Found Its Community
The first edition proved that competition and camaraderie did not need to oppose each other. Players could battle seriously while still creating a day defined by friendship, humour and shared appreciation for the format.
The Inaugural Championship
As the rounds progressed, the new tournament developed its own rhythm, tension and character.
Decks were shuffled, opening hands were judged and the room settled into the familiar sounds of an Old School tournament.
Every table carried a different story. Some players arrived with established archetypes and precise plans. Others brought personal favourites, unusual card choices and decks built as much for character as for victory.
Through every round, the competitive stakes grew. At the same time, the atmosphere remained rooted in the reason the Championship had been created: celebrating Old School Magic together.
Wijkcentrum Jeruzalem
The Tilburg venue became the official home of The Edge-Man Championship and the setting for its first chapter.
Competition and Camaraderie
Every match mattered, but the conversations, laughter and stories between games mattered just as much.
One Last Battle
The tension continued to build until the final result established the first name in the Championship’s history.
The First Champion
At the end of the inaugural tournament, one player stood as the first bearer of the Edge-Man Championship title.
Henk Willemse
THE FIRST EDGE-MAN CHAMPION
After a full day of Old School Magic and a tense conclusion to the tournament, Henk Willemse emerged as the inaugural champion.
His Counterburn deck secured its place in Edge-Man history alongside the first title, the first Championship story and the first name to be remembered in every edition that followed.
Prizes, Swag and Identity
The inaugural edition established that an Edge-Man Championship should have its own artwork, objects and visual character.
Something to Remember
The first Championship already carried the foundations of the identity that later editions would expand: dedicated artwork, recognizable symbols, memorable prizes and physical reminders of the gathering.
These details were not added merely as decoration. They helped turn the event into a complete experience and gave players something connected to the story of the day.
Every future edition would build on that principle, creating a new visual world while preserving the same Edge-Man spirit.
The Artwork
The Edge-Man on horseback established the visual starting point for the Championship’s continuing journey.
The Memorabilia
Patches, prizes and other objects gave players permanent reminders of the inaugural event.
The Tradition
The first edition created a foundation that every new Championship could reinterpret and expand.
