Every year, The Edge-Man Championship gets its own identity.
And every year we design unique and epic playmats that captures that identity: A “community playmat” that has original artwork and an “official playmat” that features artwork of an old school Magic card.

The first edition of The Edge-Man Championship gave us the Edge-Man riding his trusted steed on the Savannah.

The second edition gave us The Edge-Man fighting against Force of Nature.

The third edition brought the Edge-Man to the desolation of Armageddon.

This year, The Edge-Man Championship goes full 80s WWF.

The 2027 Theme: 80s WWF

The 1980s were the golden age of larger-than-life wrestling. Bright colors, insane energy, screaming crowds, steel cages, over-the-top promos, and heroes who looked like they had walked straight out of a comic book.

Of course, the biggest star of the 80s wrestling boom was Hulk Hogan. But this is The Edge-Man Championship. So instead of going for the obvious choice, we went with someone a little wilder, a little stranger, and a lot more intense.

We went with The Ultimate Warrior.

And honestly, he fits The Edge-Man perfectly.

The Ultimate Warrior looked like pure chaos, confidence, muscle, face paint, and thunder. He was created to be the next huge hero after Hogan’s first retirement — the first of many, of course. He never truly became bigger than Hogan, but he was absolutely unforgettable in his own way.

A flawed hero, a tragic legend. Completely over the top but completely awesome in his own right. Just like The Edge-Man!

And maybe, in some ways, just like The Edge-Man Championship itself. Not the biggest tournament in the world, not the most polished, not the most serious — but unique, loud, passionate, and built with love for the community.

The Official 2027 Playmat

The first design is the Official Edge-Man Championship 2027 Playmat.

This is the main playmat for the tournament and the one that captures the 2027 theme in full force: an 80s wrestling arena, the spirit of The Ultimate Warrior, and of course our card of the year: Arena!

This playmat will be available for sale at The Edge-Man Championship 2027.

The Champion Edition

Every year, one player rises above the rest. For that player, we have something special.

The second version is the Champion Edition of the Official 2027 Playmat. This version is not for sale. It is reserved for the winner of The Edge-Man Championship 2027. Only one will exist.

The Champion Edition is based on the official design, but with its own special treatment to mark the winner of the 2027 championship.

Two Community Playmats

This year, we are doing something extra.

For the first time, we do not have one community playmat. We have two!

Both community playmats are inspired by the same 80s WWF energy, but they each bring their own flavor to the table. These are not the official tournament playmat, but they are made for the community and will also be available for sale at Edge-Man.

Because honestly, one wrestling-inspired Old School Magic playmat was not enough.

The Spize Price Edition

And of course, we could not forget one of the best traditions in Old School: The Spice Prize!

This year, one of the two community playmats will receive a special Spice Prize treatment. Just like the Champion Edition, this version will be completely unique. But we are not deciding which one it will be just yet.

Later this year, the community will get to vote for their favorite community playmat. The winning design will become the official Spice Prize Edition for The Edge-Man Championship 2027.

That means one of these community designs will not only be available as a regular playmat, but will also receive a unique one-of-a-kind version for the player who brings the spiciest deck of the tournament. Because in Old School, winning is great. But winning with spice is legendary!

Five playmats, one arena

So there you have it. For The Edge-Man Championship 2027, we will have five different playmat versions:

The Champion Edition
Two Community Playmats
And one special Spice Prize Edition

All built around our 2027 theme: 80s WWF. The card of the year is Arena. The spirit is The Ultimate Warrior. The stage is set for another unforgettable Edge-Man Championship.
